I would like to congratulate the AWO Fulda District Association on its 75th anniversary on behalf of the AWO Hessen-Nord District Association and also personally. As chairperson, I have great appreciation for my colleagues in Fulda. They are extremely broad-based and always come up with innovative ideas.
In the past 75 years, great things have been created to bring people together and to help them in the most diverse ways, e.g. through meeting places, projects, partnerships and sponsorships as well as counselling. Trust, autonomy and self-determination were increased and built up, learning from and with each other was lived. This was especially important for the many refugees who were looking for a new home. Through social support in the shared accommodation and targeted projects, they were given hope and motivation for their future lives.
However, the AWO Kreisverband Fulda is not only there to provide support in difficult times; recreational fun for young and old also plays a major role. All this has been made possible by the commitment and outstanding performance of many. I therefore congratulate not only the full-time staff for their work, but also each and every volunteer, volunteer and member who has contributed to the numerous offers.
The potential of the AWO Fulda District Association lies in its dynamic and forward-looking strength. I would like to mention a few projects as examples. The socio-cultural centre “L14zwo” is sustainably supported and is pointing the way for the future. The “Repaircafé” is a step towards more sustainability. “Refugees go Volunteers” has accompanied refugees into voluntary work. The “Generationenhilfe” supports where family care is not sufficient. And the “Mitmachkaufhaus” has transformed the well-known second-hand shop into a place of encounter and togetherness.
My congratulations are therefore not limited to the past and present. I also wish continued success for the future!
