Volunteering as a fountain of youth!
Studies show that people who get involved live 7 years longer, because:
Joy and fulfilment in volunteering bring satisfaction.
The social interaction and recognition in the group counteracts loneliness.
The will to shape things and the assumption of responsibility lead to increased resilience.
In the AWO Fulda District Association, voluntary work is possible and very welcome in many projects and areas. We are proud that one third of our volunteers have a migration background.
We are looking for people who want to take on challenging and interesting activities in their free time as well as helpers at barbecues or coffee afternoons. It is a pleasure to shape social life together with others and to contribute according to one’s own possibilities. Furthermore, voluntary work can also help you to acquire additional qualifications and to orientate or distinguish yourself professionally.
You can get an impression of the diversity of voluntary work by watching the video in this section: Presentation Commitment at the AWO
In addition, a few films have been made with people who have taken on a sponsorship: Films Chancen-Patenschaften
As early as 1997, the Fulda District Association of the AWO set up an office to deal with all questions concerning voluntary work: the AWO Büro Aktiv. In addition to advising and supporting volunteers, it has the task of organising regular meetings, excursions and events that promote togetherness and enable exchange. If reading our website has given you an idea of how you can and would like to get involved, then you have come to the right place with your questions.
